Happy Birthday to America

So much to celebrate and if you're looking to brush up on your American history, we've got you covered...

The Mayflower Pilgrims - there's much more to this story than we were taught in school.

The Origin of American Independence - this started out with a question - how did Thomas Jefferson come to write the Declaration of Independence? It turned out to be a much bigger story than that.

Samuel Adams - the mastermind of American Independence - as he watched the British war ships arrive in Boston Harbor to enforce the Tea Tax, he began thinking, there's only going to be one outcome here. For the next eight years, he drove that outcome to the historic day at Philadelphia's Independence Hall on July 4, 1776.

Henry Knox - when George Washington gathered with his Officers to say a final farewell at New York's Fraunces Tavern, he almost exploded into tears at the sight of Henry Knox. Washington couldn't say a word for the rest of the reception. When the colonial troops had almost no weapons or artillery, it was 25-year-old Henry Knox who came to Washington and suggested a plan - he would take his teenage brother and make the 600-mile journey to Fort Ticonderoga to retrieve the stash of armaments. Knox made Washington's first victory at the Battle of Dorchester possible. Knox was the clever genius behind the crossing of the Delaware and delivered the final blow to the British at Yorktown. He then served as Washington's Secretary of War. Quite a career for a kid who had to leave school before he was 12 to take care of his mother and brother.

You'll find all these great stories here.
