65 years ago today, the beginning of the Beatles' success...

A Liverpool teenager walked into NEMS music store in Liverpool and asked for a record called "My Bonnie" by an obscure band called The Beatles. He added that the record had been recorded in Germany.

My Bonnie seems like an odd choice for a German record, a jazzed up recording of a Scottish folksong, but it's better than you think. You can hear it here.

Germans knew the song from English classes and lonely servicemen visiting from the UK loved it. As the saying goes, the rest is history!
