Shackletons Führungspraktiken:

Shackleton - #1 on the Survival Countdown

6-minute video

The Leadership Development Program based on Shackleton’s Way - Leadership Lessons from the Great Antarctic Explorer draws powerful, practical insights from Ernest Shackleton’s legendary Endurance expedition.

When his ship was crushed by Antarctic ice in 1915, Shackleton kept every one of his 27 men alive through nearly two years of grueling hardship. His approach to leadership—rooted in character, clarity of purpose, care for people, and calm under pressure—offers

a timeless blueprint for leading teams through uncertainty and adversity today.

This program translates Shackleton’s real-world example into a structured, actionable learning journey. Participants explore proven principles and apply them to modern organizational challenges, developing the mindset and skills needed to inspire trust, build high-performing teams, and navigate complexity with resilience and integrity. The program is organized into five progressive sections:

1 / The Foundation of Leadership

Establishes the core personal qualities that underpinned Shackleton’s success—optimism, responsibility, emotional intelligence, and unwavering commitment to the team’s welfare. Participants examine how these foundations shape authentic leadership presence.

2 / The Path to Leadership

Focuses on the deliberate habits and choices that develop leadership capability over time. Drawing on Shackleton’s preparation, decision-making style, and ability to create a shared vision, this section guides participants in mapping their own leadership growth.

3 / Getting the Best from a Team

Explores Shackleton’s exceptional ability to select, motivate, and unify diverse individuals under extreme conditions. Topics include building psychological safety, leveraging individual strengths, fostering loyalty, and creating a culture of mutual support and accountability.

4 / Leading through Challenges

Addresses crisis leadership in depth. Using the Endurance story as a living case study, participants learn how to maintain morale, make tough decisions under pressure, communicate clearly in uncertainty, and keep teams focused on survival and eventual success when everything seems lost.

5 / Leadership Lessons

Synthesizes the key principles into a personal leadership framework. Participants reflect on the full journey, identify transferable lessons for their own context, and create practical action plans to apply Shackleton’s wisdom in their roles and organizations.

By the end of the program, leaders will leave with a deeper understanding of what it means to lead with purpose and humanity, equipped with concrete tools and a renewed sense of confidence to guide their teams through any challenge—just as Shackleton did against impossible odds.
